I pack a couple of coffee packets for each day inside a quart size ziplock bag and toss that bag into my checked luggage. Although the end product isn’t brewed coffee, it is similar in taste to pour-over coffee and is closer to the “right” taste. The individual package is a bit larger than a tea bag and inside the package are coffee grounds secured in what amounts to a teabag. Fortunately, Folgers makes a take-along coffee option that works beautifully for this set up.
While I can certainly drink instant coffee, it isn’t my personal preference and I like to have a cup of coffee when I get up, get showered and dressed – before I have to go “people”.
I NEED my morning coffee and it is my experience that many hotels and B&Bs provide hot pots (not a coffee maker) to boil water in the room, along with tea bags and INSTANT coffee. Generally we end up having our lunch/dinner about 3:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon, so we only have the expense of one meal (besides breakfast) per day. If you are trying to take a budget friendly trip, and who isn’t, having a big breakfast prepares you for a busy day and you won’t be hungry until late in the afternoon, so you can save time (no stopping to eat) and money. Tea is the “usual” Irish breakfast fare, but coffee is always available, too. Today’s breakfast included a fried egg, a pork sausage link (not seasoned with sage and other spices like sausage in the US), a couple of rashers (Irish bacon that is similar to thin-sliced ham in the US), half a grilled tomato, black pudding, white pudding, beans (similar to pork & beans), potatoes and some amazing brown bread on the side. Off we go …īreakfast in Ireland is BIG and filling and it is typically included with your lodging. I grabbed my cell phone and did a quick search and found a place to have breakfast only two minutes away. Also, there is now the option to pre-pay your reservation using PayPal, which I thought was a great option).

Generally there is the option to cancel the reservation for free if it is cancelled with the prescribed time – usually a couple of days before the date reserved. (I always use to make our reservations for lodging so I can read reviews by fellow travelers and easily see the amenities. Unfortunately, when I made our reservations I didn’t notice whether breakfast was included with our lodging and it wasn’t.
